Is it normal to see veins on my legs? This is a common question we hear at the Vein Institute of Blue Bell. There are parts of our body where we see almost no veins, like the chest. In the legs, however, normal veins can easily be seen under the skin. This is often related to skin tone and the amount of fat under the skin. Thinner individuals with light complexion often complain of “green lines” being visible under the skin. If skin overlying these veins is smooth without bulging, they are usually not problematic. Veins that can be felt under the skin like a “rope” or “bulge” are more likely to represent varicose veins. These varicose veins may change in appearance during the course of the day. They may be associated with pain and leg swelling as well. If you have veins that you are concerned about, please come see us during one our free screenings so we can put you at ease.
